The First Prayer in the Bible and How God Answered According to Covenant

Welcome to Windows of Heaven Prayer Group on Facebook Bible Studies of "Prayers in the Bible."

What Was the First Prayer in the Bible? How God Answered According to Covenant.

What Was the First Prayer in the Bible?  How God Answered According to Covenant.

Genesis 15--A closer look at a conversation with Abram and God.

After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

--God answered Abram in a vision and spoke a promise.

2 And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

--Abram told God one of the stewards in the house was his but God told him the steward did not belong to him, the steward belonged to God.

3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.

--Abram reminded God that he had no seed, or child.

4 And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.

Why Does it Seem That God Blesses Others More in My Life Than Me?

Here, we learn that Abram was looking for God to answer a prayer a certain way but God wanted to answer a prayer another way.  Why was God's way better than what Abram wanted? God wanted to answer the prayer of Abram according to God's Covenant.  Often, our prayers are not answered because they are not part of God's Covenant plan for our lives.

In times like these this might explain why we often see others being blessed and multiplying in our lives around us but not our lives?  Why?  Here, we learn that all the blessings of those around in the lives of people, places and things are not God's Covenant for you.

Prayer Confession:

Father, I set my heart in agreement with Your Covenant plan for me.  I thank You that Your Covenant Best is working __________________ out in my life for the best.  Thank You Father for answering my prayer according to Your Covenant.  In Jesus name.

How Did God Answer the Prayer of Abram?

Genesis 21:1-8

And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken.

--The Lord answered the prayer of Abram by fulfilling His promise of Covenant. The Lord healed Sarah's body according to Covenant.

2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

--The Lord told Abraham the time would be a set time and it came to pass.

3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.

--Abraham named his son Isaac.

4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.

5 And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.

--It may seem late when God answers but God will answer according to Covenant.

6 And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.

--God restored the joy of Sarah

7 And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? For I have born him a son in his old age.

8 And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned.

Closing Thoughts:

**I was totally shocked to find out that the first prayer of the Bible--God answered no. Yet, with the no from God He still provided a way for Abraham because of the Covenant God made with him. (Genesis 12 God's Covenant With Abraham.)

Interesting insight of God's answer that all things are His and not ours. Abram thought the servant in his house was his, but God said, "No, the servant is mine."

God answers prayer according to Covenant that He has for each of our lives.

Prayers are changed when we understand Covenant.   Prayers are answered when we understand Covenant.

What a lesson!

God's Word is working mightily in our lives, today.
